On Saturday, 31 December at 12:00 noon, the annual running competition “The New Year’s Run” will start at the entrance of the Basketball Hall of the Olympic Centre “Ventspils”, which takes place as part of the EU project “Measures for the Promotion of Public Health and Disease Prevention in Ventspils”.

The competition is open to everyone, irrespective of the age. The participants will be able to choose between a distance of 1 to 5 km without timekeeping and distances with timekeeping – a distance of 3 km for ladies and a distance of 5 km for gentlemen. Each participant will be given a competition number. Those participants completing the distance with timekeeping, i.e., six fastest ladies who have completed the distance of 3 km and six gentlemen who have completed the distance of 5 km, will be awarded. . After crossing the finish line, the participants will be able to enjoy hot tea and small treats provided by the competition organisers.

We are pleased that this running competition has become very popular over time and brings together around 300 participants from all over Latvia each year. The “New Year’s Run” has its own history, which began nearly 50 years ago with the students of the athletics coach Andrejs Dogadovs.

The registration will start as of 11:00 AM in the Basketball Hall, and first 100 participants registering for the competition will receive a Christmas hat as a keepsake.
