The excursion boat “Hercogs Jēkabs” of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority will start its 2023 season on Wednesday, 10 May. This year, due to the renovation works on the promenade of Ostas Street, the boat will be waiting for tourists at the pier next to the monument to seafarers and fishermen.
The excursion boat “Hercogs Jēkabs” is one of the most popular tourist and recreational attractions in Ventspils. From May to October, it takes visitors on a 45-minute cruise along the Venta River 5-7 times a day, during which they can see the Venta River estuary, the Old Town, the Freeport of Ventspils industrial area and the Sea Gate.
Renovation works of the section of Ostas Street where the “Hercogs Jēkabs” pier used to be will soon commence and will continue until the end of the year. That’s why the excursion boat will be docked at a different location this season – next to the monument to seafarers and fishermen. Visitors may find it easier to find their way around by looking for signs for the excursion boat “Hercogs Jēkabs” near the sculpture “Travelling Cow”.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office. Children under 10 years of age are allowed to use the boat only accompanied by adults. The Freeport of Ventspils Authority draws attention to the fact that trips may be cancelled or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances, strong winds or fog.
The excursion boat “Hercogs Jēkabs” has been sailing in Ventspils since 1995.
