The Ventspils Basketball Championship is coming to an end and already this weekend, on 13 May at 14:00 at the Basketball Hall of the Olympic Centre “Ventspils”, the champions of the 2022/2023 season will be determined.
The gold medal match will be played between Anzāģe/Pope and the Freeport Authority. The 3rd place match will be played on 20 May at 17:00 between Baltijas Ekspresis and Ventspils Vocational School.
This year 7 teams Baltijas Ekspresis, Anzāģe/Pope, Freeport Authority, Spars, Ventspils Vocational School, Niedras and Ventspils 36ers took part in the Championship and played a one-round tournament followed by playoffs.
In the quarter-finals the winners were determined by the sum of two games and Ventspils Vocational School beat Ventspils 36ers with 192:152 (98:69, 94:83), Freeport Authority beat Niedras with 187:150 (85:72, 105:78) and Baltijas Ekspresis beat Spars with 205:180 (102:97, 103:83).
In the semi-finals Anzāģe/Pope beat Ventspils Vocational School with 100:95 and 135:86, and were better in the sum of the two games with 235:181. In the second semi-final, Freeport Authority lost the first game with 76:105, but defeated Baltijas Ekspresis with 119:86 in the second game and won in the sum of the two games with 195:191.

The Ventspils Championship is organised by basketball club “Ventspils” with the financial support of the Ventspils State City Municipality.
