2023. On 18 January 2023, at 7:00 PM, the Concert Hall “Latvija” will be holding the concert “Latvia in Europe. Europe in Latvia” by the State Academic Choir “Latvija”. ”. Choral conductor – artistic director Māris Sirmais.
The State Academic Choir “Latvija” will perform a special concert programme at the Concert Hall “Latvija”, which will illustrate Latvia as part of the musical circulatory system of Europe. Through mutual completion and respect for national heritage, the changes in the world of music in Europe keep pace with its development. In the Concert Hall “Latvija”, alongside with the compositions of Latvian composers performed by the choir “Latvija” in various concert halls across Europe, including those in Hamburg, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Berlin, we will also hear opuses by Arvo Pärt, Johannes Brahms, Francis Poulenc, Sven-David Sandström, and many other brilliant European composers. The choir has decided to perform a capella, which will allow the audience to appreciate the warm, instrumentally nuanced, and perfect vocal skills of the choir “Latvija”.
The State Academic Choir “Latvija” – one of the cultural values of Latvia – has been demonstrating the power of music, high-quality performance, and professionalism developed through the traditions of Latvian choirs for decades now. Since 1997, Māris Sirmais has been the artistic director and leading choral director of the choir. The repertoire of the choir includes vocal instrumental pieces such as oratorios, cantatas, masses, requiems, symphonies, and opera concert performances – music written in the time period from the Early Renaissance to the present days. The choir constantly expands its repertoire with innovative compositions in various genres, ranging from jazz compositions to vocal-instrumental world premieres. The choir has received great acclaim not only in Latvia. The world’s leading choral conductors and orchestras invite this largest professional choir in the Baltic States to perform in their concert programmes on a regular basis.
The concert is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and Ventspils State City Municipality and organised by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija”. Tickets are available in the ticket sales network “Biļešu Paradīze”.
