Ventspils will once again spin in the multinational dance of the Festival “Wreath of Ventspils”, which will take place from 24 to 30 April with this year’s theme “The Flower of My Nation”. The opening of the Festival will take place on 29 April at 15.00 in Pārventa Library, while the main Festival events will take place on 30 April at 15.00 in the Theatre House “Jūras vārti”.

Ventspils collectives – choreographic ensemble “Konfetti”, Belarusian song ensemble “Zhuravinka”, folk instrument ensemble “Kalinka” and folk rock band “Shumilov Bor” – will perform at the opening of the Festival in the Pārventa Library. On Sunday, 30 April, guests from Liepaja and Riga will perform together with Ventspils collectives in a concert programme at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti”. An exhibition of works by artists which now decorate the city will be on show in the lobby. During the intermission, choir “Cantabile” will perform songs in various languages, including a fictional one.

For the first time, the Festival will include an exhibition quiz. Paintings by Latvian artists depicting different nationalities are displayed in windows in various parts of the city. Everyone can enjoy the art and take part in the game while strolling around the city. The idea is to find all the paintings, read information about the artists and answer the questions. Prizes will be drawn among those who answer correctly. All the conditions and the questionnaire are available on the Facebook page of the Ventspils Association of National Cultural Societies. . The award ceremony will take place at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” and an audience award will be given to the artist whose painting has been voted for by the most quiz participants.

The Festival “Wreath of Ventspils” is an opportunity to get to know and experience the rich cultural diversity of our country. There are few places in Latvia where you can see Bashkir, Tatar, Adjarian, Mordovian and other dances, hear Bulgarian, Polish, Jewish, Ukrainian and Latvian songs all in one place. And only in Ventspils, once every two years, is there a celebration of national cultures and the unity of different peoples.

Entry to all events is free.

The Festival is financially supported by the Ventspils State City Municipality.
