On Thursday, 3 August, at 19.00 o’clock, at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti”, soloists Aija Vītoliņa, Jānis Aišpurs, Atis Zviedris, Atis Ieviņš, as well as the mixed choir “Ventspils” and Ventspils Chamber Orchestra, will introduce Ventspils City Festival with the concert “Rock Ballads – Alternative”. On the conductor’s podium – the artistic director of the concert Aigars Meri.
During the concert programme, you will hear well known alternative rock ballads performed by soloists, choir and chamber orchestra. Based on the list of the artists performing at the concert, such compositions as Skunk Anansie “Secretly”, P.Gabriel & K.Bush “Don’t give up”, 4 Non Blondes “What’s Up”, Alanis Morissette “Uninvited”, The Verve “Drugs Don’t Work”, Nickelback “How You Remind Me”, Rammstein “Ohne dich”, Lou Reed “Perfect Day”, Go Go Dolls “Iris” and other compositions have been arranged.

More powerful musical accompaniment will be ensured by the accompanying band – Gundars Lintiņš (percussion instruments), Jānis Bērziņš (guitar), Aleksis Zariņš (guitar), Ivars Ozols (bass guitar) and Zane Volberga (keyboard instruments).
The first concert of the concert series “Rock Ballads” created by the conductor Aigars Meri took place in the spring of 2019 at the Theatre House “Jūras vārti”. These concerts please the audience with the choice of repertoire and the new sounding of popular rock compositions, implementing the musical challenges planned by the artistic director.
The concert is organised by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija”, funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Ventspils State City Council.
