The Children’s Festival returns to Ventspils in all its splendour
Ventspils ( no Lielā laukuma līdz Bērnu pilsētiņai)

On 29 May, children, teachers, parents, and city guests will go on a grand, loud parade “The Sea of the Rhythm”, marching from the square Lielais laukums to the Children’s Town, in order to officially open the Children’s Festival “The Wonderland”. Loud songs and powerful dances on two stages, performances by children’s ensembles from Ventspils and well-known Latvian artists, and a wide range of creative workshops – this all and many more activities await you in the Children’s Festival.

On the square Lielais laukums, at 9:50, the parade participants will gather for the parade “The Rhythm of the Sea” to start a joint rhythmisation together with one of the leading drummers in Latvia Andžejs Grauds and the band “Drumline LATVIA”. The festival parade will start at 10:30, whereas the participants will march along the boulevard Lielais prospekts to the Children’s Town, joined by Clown Doctors and fairy-tale characters. Everyone is welcome to bring their own rattling, clattering, and otherwise noisy percussion instruments to jointly get into the rhythm.

In the Children’s Town, at 11:00, the concert “Extraordinarily Ordinary” will be opened with the performance “The Mouse Dance with the Band” by all pre-school educational institutions. The programme will continue with musical performances by the primary schools, the Centre for Creative Learning, the Culture Centre, and the Music School. The festival will be visited by the characters of the LTV show “Little Genius Academy” – Jack the Cat and Dudu the Bird, who will demonstrate how to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.

At 11:10, the musicians will take the stage “The Rhythm is All Around Us” to give an impressive drum show. Afterwards, the audience will be entertained by school dance ensembles, dance studios, a hat parade, and a stilt walker from the “DeltaLivik”.

At 12:30, the chess lovers will have the opportunity to meet other chess enthusiasts, to learn the best chess moves, and to compete against the chess-player Jānis Isakovs, accepting the 6-table challenge. We have not forgotten about the new parents, who will definitely appreciate the meeting in the “Baby’s Nest” at 13:30, where the musician and children’s songwriter Marta Marija Sproģe and Sanita Bergmane from the centre “Mīļotava” will share their experience and advice. Everyone is invited to participate in joint activities in the melodic meadow, a tea drinking ritual, and a track to test their skills, to immerse into the world of magic tricks and illusions, to get busy in flower workshops and the paper transformation corner, to visit the virtual reality world, to compete in games to train your mind, as well as to create drawings in milk, thus letting the imagination run wild, exploring the world, and seeking for the bright and endless wonderland in ourselves.

Later at 15:00, the fairy-tale characters the Mole, the Frog, and the Butterfly will continue celebrating the festival in the children’s park “Fantāzija” and invite everyone to enjoy the programme for children “Through the Blossoming Meadow We Go”.

The Children’s Festival was created in collaboration with all educational institutions in the city of Ventspils, as well as the Centre for Creative Learning, the School of Arts, the Music School, the Ventspils Technical School, the Ventspils Library, the Ventspils Music Library, the Sport School, the support centre for families with special needs “Cimdiņš”, Ukrainian families, and the societies “Street Art” and “Pasaku nams”.

The event is organised by the Ventspils Culture Centre and supported by the Municipality of the State City of Ventspils, the bookstore “Gaisma”, and the business group “Food Union”.
