TOP 5 Open-Air Tourism Objects in Ventspils, Which Are Safe to Visit During the Restrictions

Although the weather is getting colder and rainier when autumn comes, we are also becoming more inert with the short day of light, and judging by this special time of caution, we understand that a lot is changing in our lives right now… One of these habits, which is recommended to be changed by Ventspils Tourism Information Centre (TIC) is recreation and walks in nature also in autumn. To motivate yourself, let us always remember that in order to enjoy the full magic of the autumn season, you should bring a raincoat and warm tea when you go outside. Ventspils TIC offers to get acquainted with the TOP 5 natural objects and places, which, at this special time, with precaution can be safely visited on the Ventspils side.

1. The impressive collection of 14 buoys on the Port Promenade, located along the bank of the Venta. Here buoys have been given a second life – to tell about seafaring, an information plate is placed next to each buoy, which explains the purpose of the particular type of buoy. The pilot ship "Rota", which worked in Ventspils Port for many years, is located next to the so-called "Winter Port". Next to the Harbor Master's Office at the entrance of the small fishing port is the "Lighthouse of Love" – an environmental object specially designed for newlyweds.

2.Anchor Trail and Jungle Trail in   Jūrmala Park. In Ventspils, near the sea, there is a large and well-maintained Jūrmala Park, which offers recreation and walking opportunities in the fresh air for the whole family. There are many different trails through the park, as well as 2 special trails – Anchor Trail and Jungle Trail. The Anchor Trail is 730m long and shows the largest collection of anchors in the Baltic countries – more than 140 different types of anchors, which are one of the largest in the world. The largest anchor weighs 23 tons and is 6 meters high. The Jungle Trail is 380m long and will be especially popular with children – you can climb and crawl like in the real jungle, there are several footbridges, hanging bridges, a small tower and a track that reaches a height of 2m at the highest point and leads from tree to tree. Going on the trail does not require physical training, it can be done by both adults and children. Train “Mazbānītis” of the Seaside Open-Air Museum runs through Jūrmala Park.

3.Ventspils Blue Flag Beach surprises with its sandy, widely open and clean beach shoreline and South Pier promenade, while the city area is proud of the new infrastructure of the SW coastal area, ten wooden path footbridges and the Gray Dune protected area of European significance, where Ventspils beach footbridge No. 10 has been upgraded, which is a popular place for walks not only for active young people and families with children, but also for owners of four-legged friends, but footbridge No. 5 tempts to take an Instagram-worthy photo by the environmental object – the outline of Latvia, which rises at the top of the dune.

4.North of Ventspils, in the direction of Kolka, is Staldzene – an old fishing village, fishermen still go to sea and on quiet evenings often smell like hard-smoked flounder. Staldzene steep coast beach is notable for the magic of the steep coast, it definitely attracts enthusiasts of beautiful and wild nature views, here every evening you can capture countless ranges of sky colors, which alternate with the mightiness of the wild coast and the sea.

5.The natural beauty of Lake Būšnieki can be enjoyed by walking along the 8km forest trail that leads around the whole lake, this place is popular with cyclists, runners, walking enthusiasts and also ornithologists. In the part of the forest path there is a health trail with 10 gymnastic stands for all age groups. In the marshy shore area of the lake, there is an almost 200m long footpath with a viewing platform for bird watching and information with pictures of nesting and traveling birds in Lake Būšnieki. Informative stands about the nature reserve and the flora and fauna found in it have been installed in the section of the bicycle path, as well as QR codes have been installed, which can be scanned on a mobile smartphone to listen to an audio description of Lake Būšnieki in Latvian and English.

Travel by Bicycle!

One of the best ways to see Ventspils is by bicycle – in the city, bicycle paths wind more than 60km long, making it especially convenient to see the city’s most beautiful places. In autumn, the bright tree ornament of Ventspils parks and squares really tempts you to go on a slow trip around the city and enjoy the splendor of nature.
