From July 31 to August 3, the city of Ventspils will celebrate its 700+35 birthday! For four days, the city will come alive with a festive atmosphere, offering a wide range of events. Residents and visitors will enjoy lively concerts, exhibitions, art performances, a festive parade, a luminescent street art plein air, book festivals, sports activities, and the highlight of the celebration – fireworks on the Ostas Street promenade.
The celebration would be unimaginable without decorating the venue with appropriate decorations that remind everyone of the approaching festivities and create the right atmosphere. This year, Ventspils is again specially decorated and prepared for the celebrations so that the city’s residents and visitors can joyfully, proudly, and upliftedly welcome the birthday festivities of Ventspils. This year’s celebration motto – “Peace unites, the city inspires!” – reminds us of the harmony and sense of togetherness that our city provides, inspiring both creative works and heartfelt meetings.
The festive decorations will be set up in several popular gathering places for Ventspils residents and city visitors. The decorations will adorn the Great Square, known not only for its unique fountain “Frigate ‘Valzivs'” and the “Latvija” concert hall, but also for its stylish flowerbeds that always impress with their variety of colors and shapes. Here, the birthday number 735 will be displayed, accompanied by colorful balloons featuring quotes from Ventspils residents about the city, and a flag stand with the flags of Ventspils. This will definitely be an ideal spot for beautiful photo moments to remember the splendid celebration! And what birthday celebration would be complete without festive flags? The celebration flags will flutter in the wind on the lighting poles along Lielais Prospekts, from Ganību Street to Brīvības Street, on Kuldīga Street from Lauku Street to Raiņa Street, at the Town Hall Square, and in the center of Pārventa.
We invite everyone to join the four-day celebration of Ventspils’ 700+35 birthday during the first weekend of August, with a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday, August 2, at 11:00 PM on the Ostas Street promenade. The magnificent fireworks can best be viewed from the right bank of the Venta River, opposite the pier for the boat “Hercogs Jēkabs.” From this spot, there is a wonderful view of the port and the fireworks zone – the perfect place to enjoy the show in all its splendor!
Ventspils City Festival program will be blooming, vibrant, and melodious, culminating in the final concert “735 White Thoughts,” featuring the golden collection of Latvian pop and rock music from the past 35 years. Legendary songs will be given new life, blending with modern musical rhythms and an international sound to create a fresh, contemporary vibe. Performers include Atis Ieviņš, Antra Stafecka, Normunds Pauniņš, Horens Stalbe, DJ MONSTA YŪT, MUSIQQ, and special guest JD DAVIS (Belgium), the voice behind DJ David Guetta’s hits. The event will also feature performances by MC ORĶESTRIS.
