As part of the “With Microphone and Notebook” series, this season’s final screening features the newsreel “Soviet Latvia,” filmed in March 1957. It tells the story of the VEF factory and Popov Radio Factory’s operations, shows how the construction brigade of the Ventspils fishermen’s collective farm “Red Lighthouse” is building 59 family homes to be sold to fishermen on installments, and highlights the Ventspils Workers’ Club dance ensemble, led by Alfrēds Rūja, which has learned 18 Ventian and Livonian dances to perform at the youth festival in Moscow.
