On May 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM, there will be a meeting with poet, translator, and literary scholar Kārlis Vērdiņš at the Writer Herbert Dorbe Museum as part of the “Guests at the Museum” project.

Kārlis Vērdiņš is a prominent figure in contemporary Latvian literature – he is the author of poetry collections for adults, translations, and significant studies on Latvian literary classics. He gained wider recognition and affection from children with his four poetry collections for kids: “Burtiņu zupa” (2007), “Tētis” (2016), “Dilles tante” (2018), and “Jandāliņš” (2023). These works have received several awards: “Burtiņu zupa” was honored with the Literature Year Award in the “Children’s Literature” category in 2008, “Tētis” (2017) was nominated for the Latvian Literature Year Award, “Dilles tante” won the Pastariņš Award in 2019, and “Jandāliņš” received the Literature Year Award in 2024.

During the meeting, Kārlis Vērdiņš will meet with students, introduce his children’s books, share stories about their creation, and answer questions from the audience. This will be a great opportunity to meet the author in person and be inspired by his creative journey.

The event is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation.

We invite students and teachers to an inspiring meeting with one of the most prominent contemporary poets!
