From May 22 to 24, Ventspils will host the first international percussion festival in the Baltics, “Percussion Sound Ventspils,” which will bring together participants from different countries, highlighting the diversity of percussion and offering unique concert programs.

The biggest event of the “Percussion Sound Ventspils” festival will be the visit of the world-famous percussion ensemble “Elbtonal Percussion” (Germany). The famous percussion quartet will perform in the Great Hall of the “Latvija” concert hall on Saturday, May 24, at 6:00 p.m., and tickets are already available at all “Biļešu paradīze” sales points. “Elbtonal Percussion” with its unique approach is able to turn the stage into a real forest of percussion instruments. They use various instruments – Taiko drums, gongs, marimbas and everyday objects, which gain new life as innovative percussion instruments. The quartet has performed in many concert halls around the world and will be visiting Latvia for the first time. The concert will combine classical percussion instruments with creative and innovative solutions, offering listeners an unforgettable musical experience.

The opening concert will take place on Friday, May 23, at 6:00 p.m. on the Open-Air Stage of the “Latvija” concert hall. It will feature internationally recognized percussionists Heigo Rosins (Estonia), Barteks Miller (Poland), Sigits Gaiļus (Lithuania) and several special guests. The concert will combine classical percussion instruments with creative and innovative solutions, creating a special atmosphere and offering the audience an exciting journey into the world of rhythm.

Later in the evening, a special quartet of Latvian and Lithuanian musicians will take to the stage of the Open-Air Concert Hall, where, together with the audience’s favorite domestic musicians Agnes Egliņa (piano) and Guntars Freibergs (percussion), the no less recognized Lithuanian duo Goda Gedvilaite – Gēle (piano) and Pāvels Ginters (percussion) will perform. Exciting, fiery and surprising musicians and music – this is how this newly created festival concert program can be briefly described. The concert is intended as a highly professional, but easily understandable musical adventure for listeners of all ages and tastes.

The festival “Percussion Sound Ventspils” is organized by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” and Ventspils Music Secondary School with the support of the Ventspils City Municipality and the State Cultural Capital Foundation, in collaboration with the Ventspils Culture Center, the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, and the Latvian Association of Percussionists and Educators.
