On May 29 at 7:00 PM, the Sea Gate Theatre will host a special concert, “The Sound of the Seasons: A Symphony of Countless Things,” inspired by the 24 Seasons, a pearl of ancient Chinese culture. Promoting peace and the development of humanity, it is a call to build a community with a shared future.

As part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity (the 24 seasons are included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List), these seasons originated from agriculture, developed into culture, and today embody the philosophy of harmony between man and nature. The concert “The Sound of the Seasons: A Symphony of Countless Things” depicts this traditional concept of the 24 seasons as an important symbol of Chinese culture, demonstrating Chinese wisdom and reflecting the ancestral knowledge of nature and man’s connection to its cycles.

The concert will be a journey through the changing seasons and the rhythms of nature, where each piece embodies a unique story about the passage of time, silence and the awakening of life. The program includes both thematically designed seasonal compositions – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter – and classical Chinese folk melodies, which will be played through instruments such as pipa, erhu, dizi, suona, kunhou and Chinese drums. Solos, duets and ensemble performances will create a multi-colored landscape, where every sound becomes a part of nature’s eternal symphony.

The concert “Sound of the Seasons: A Symphony of Countless Things” is a collaborative project between the Network of International Culturalink Entities and China Digital Culture Group Co., Ltd. It was first performed in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2024, to great reviews. At the invitation of the Riga and Stockholm Chinese Cultural Centers, four concerts will be held this year in Riga, Ventspils and Stockholm. They are planned to take place during the Dragon Boat Festival.

“The Sound of the Seasons: A Symphony of Countless Things” is a cultural bridge between East and West – a story in sound about peace, balance and a shared future. This is a valuable opportunity to experience the richness of Chinese culture here in Latvia.

The event is organized by the Chinese Cultural Center.
