On Saturday, May 24, at 6:00 PM, the innovative and virtuoso percussion quartet from Germany “Elbtonal Percussion” will perform at the “Latvija” concert hall, promising listeners a magnificent and exciting musical journey through different cultures and rhythmic landscapes.
The group “Elbtonal Percussion” has performed in many concert halls around the world, but at the end of May they will visit Latvia for the first time with the concert “NEO(N)”. The quartet has won recognition from critics and listeners for their innovative approach to percussion music, virtuoso performance and ability to combine different genres. “Elbtonal Percussion” concerts are exciting and visually impressive events, but their ability to create dynamic and nuanced soundscapes on stage is highly appreciated.
Since the repertoire of percussion ensembles is limited, “Elbtonal Percussion” creates its own works and experiments with new concert forms. When describing the group, the wide palette of instruments is also highlighted, playing both traditional percussion and giving new life to various everyday objects. ““Elbtonal Percussion” is more than a percussion quartet! They are sound sculptors who, with virtuoso precision and unlimited creativity, transform rhythm into an exciting and multi-layered musical experience,” music critics admit.
The band’s lineup has changed over the years, but currently consists of four talented percussionists: Stefan Krause, Jan Frederik Behrend, Zenke Schreiber and Francisco Manuel Angus Rodríguez. “Elbtonal Percussion” has released several albums (the first “Percussion Works” was released in 1999), as well as participated in the creation of albums and projects by other well-known artists. For example, in 2012 the band released the album “Plays Stewart Copeland”, which was a tribute to the drummer and composer of the famous band “The Police” Stewart Copeland. The album features not only the songs of this band, but also other compositions by Copeland, including compositions written especially for “Elbtonal Percussion”.
Tickets for “Elbtonal Percussion” can be purchased at all “Biļešu paradīze” sales points and on the website bilesuparadize.lv.
“Elbtonal Percussion” will be special guests at the percussion festival “Percussion Sound Ventspils”, which will take place in various locations in the city from May 22 to 24. Several concerts, master classes and various interactive activities will take place during the festival, allowing everyone to get to know the diversity and creativity of percussion music.
The festival “Percussion Sound Ventspils” is organized by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” and Ventspils Music Secondary School with the support of the Ventspils City Municipality and the State Cultural Capital Foundation, in collaboration with the Ventspils Culture Center, the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, and the Latvian Association of Percussionists and Educators.
