On Wednesday, May 14, at 7:00 PM, the National Armed Forces Staff Orchestra concert “Sounding for the Future” will take place at the “Latvija” Concert Hall in Ventspils.
With an eye toward Latvia’s future, the National Armed Forces Staff Orchestra has invited young musical talents to share the stage in a joint performance. At the heart of the diverse concert program will be soloists from the Ventspils Secondary Music School – Jana Ancāne (flute), Roberts Barkāns (piano), Elza Plostniece (trumpet), instructor Jānis Ivuškāns (trumpet), and Kate Makrecka (percussion). Under the direction of conductor Captain Aleksandrs Kreišmanis, the concert will feature Latvian folk music arranged by Raitis Ašmanis, compositions by Juris Karlsons and Sergejs Austra Universs, as well as several works by contemporary Spanish composer Ferrer Ferran.
“With this concert, we are fulfilling a long-cherished dream. We want to encourage and showcase the musical talents of Latvia’s new generation. This concert project can be seen as a kind of triangular interaction between the audience, the students and teachers of the Ventspils Secondary Music School, and the National Armed Forces Staff Orchestra. We will invite the audience to immerse themselves in the diverse and captivating sounds of various solo instruments, reflected through the music of Latvian and Spanish composers. For the young aspiring musicians, performing together with a professional orchestra on one of Latvia’s finest concert hall stages will be an invaluable experience for their future careers. This time, the music will be played with a perspective toward the future,” says conductor Aleksandrs Kreišmanis.
