Annika Lanka
David Klavins Piano 470i
The Summer Evening Concerts will be performed by the young pianist Annika Lanka, offering listeners the opportunity to enjoy the magic of her music and the rich sound of the concert hall “Latvija”‘s unique instrument – the vertical piano.
Annika Lanka’s music captivates with its melodiousness and delicate nuances – when you close your eyes, it’s easy to imagine her fingers dancing across the piano keys like sparkling beads, drawing us into a stream of the subconscious.
From tinkling on her sister’s piano to collaborating with some of Latvia’s most outstanding pianists, Annika has crafted a musical style that seamlessly blends ethereal beauty with joyful abundance. Influenced by the works of Ólafur Arnalds and George Winston, Annika strives to capture the same sense of wonder and light in her debut album Vol. 1, and with Vol. 2, she takes listeners on a deeply personal journey through musical bookmarks from 2023–2024. – These melodies reflect a period marked by unexpected change and healing. Each composition embodies the bittersweet beauty of the year as it unfolded in unforeseen ways, offering a sense of comfort and understanding.
These compositions intertwine courage and introspection, guiding Annika along uncharted paths and capturing the essence of a year marked by abandonment and profound clarity.
As a classically trained pianist, allowing herself to embrace the unique flow of her own compositions initially felt like a bold step for the young musician. “My music is often described as film music. I present it as songs without words. You can feel and hear that something is being said, but it’s expressed without lyrics – that’s how I feel it, and that’s how I convey it. It’s not quite minimalism – you can sense the touch of classical piano playing in the music. I used to play only the piano, but now I also incorporate synthesizers,” reveals Annika Lanka.
The concert is part of the Summer Evening Concerts subscription, which offers access to the concerts at a special discounted price of €20.00.
