Museum Night at the Ventspils Museum
Livonijas ordeņa pils (Jāņa iela 17) | Amatu māja (Skolas iela 3) | H.Dorbes muzejs (Ērgļu iela 1) | Piejūras brīvdabas muzejs (Riņķa iela 2)

On 14 May, the Ventspils Museum will also take part in the European Museum Night and open its doors to visitors free of charge.

After a break of two years, the European Museum Night will once again fall over the museums, whereby the Ventspils Museum invites all restless people to go for a long evening walk within the Museum Night on 14 May.

The Ventspils Museum invites everyone to the Castle of the Livonian Order (Jāņa iela 17) to explore the castle under the cover of darkness through “History Portals – Things, Texts, and Music”. The museum exhibits have certain similarities with the things related to the Pottermore – portals to other epochs or dimensions. The castle wishes to reveal this magic of historical objects also to the visitors. The visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition through history portals from 19:00 to 22:00, whereas the magic of historical texts (at 20:00 in the Chapter Hall) will be demonstrated by the historians Stella Lindenberga and Māra Dāvida. The power of music and its strength to break through the boundaries over centuries will be revealed in a concert by the String Quartet and the Vocal Department of the Ventspils Music School (vocational education competence centre – PIKC) (from 22:00 to 23:00 in the courtyard), which will feature the compositions of L. Beethoven and Vivaldi, as well as solo songs by Jāzeps Vītols and Emīls Dārziņš. In the outer yard, on the other hand, the visitors will be able to warm their hearts and hands at bonfire, drinking hot tea prepared by the pub Pilskrogs.

From 19:00 to 22:00, the House of Crafts (Skolas iela 3) invites you to “The Big Search” to resolve riddles and quizzes, thus discovering significant facts about the House of Crafts. The untroubled minds are welcome to participate in the harmonica master class (at 21:00).

From 19:00 to 22:00, the Herberts Dorbe Memorial (Ērgļu iela 1) will welcome all romantics to listen to the love poetry “I Reach Out for Your Love Silently” by H. Dorbe, dedicated to Lidija Zommere (1943–1945), whereas the response by his muse will be read by the Ventspils Theatre actors Reinis Freibergs and Emīlija Jermola.

You are welcome to conclude the long walk within the Museum Night at the Boat House of the Seaside Open-Air Museum, where “The Wind Will Raise the Sails” (Riņķa iela 2). From 21:00 to 23:00, the Boat House will be illuminated, with busy nightlife and workshops on boats.

The participation in the Museum Night is free of charge.
