From July 31 to August 3, the city of Ventspils will celebrate its 700+35th birthday! For four days, the city will come alive in a festive mood, offering a wide program of events. City residents and guests will be delighted with resounding concerts, exhibitions, art performances, a festive procession, a luminescent street art plein air, a book festival, sports activities and, at the culmination of the celebration, fireworks on the Ostas Street promenade.
Celebrating the holiday is unthinkable without decorating the venue with appropriate decorations that remind of the approaching holiday and create the right mood. Ventspils is also being specially decorated and prepared for the holiday this year, so that the city's residents and guests can welcome the Ventspils birthday celebrations with joy, pride and high spirits. This year's holiday motto is “Peace unites, the city inspires!”-reminds us of the harmony and sense of community that our city provides, inspiring both creative works and heartfelt meetings.
The festive decoration will be installed in several popular gathering places for Ventspils residents and city guests. The festive decorations will be decorated in the Great Square, which is recognized not only for the unique fountain “Fregate “Valzivs”” and the concert hall “Latvija”, but which always stands out with its designer flowerbeds, which surprise everyone with their variety of colors and shapes. The birthday number 735 has been installed here, along with colorful balls with Ventspils residents’ quotes about Ventspils and a flag stand with Ventspils city flags. This will definitely be an ideal place for beautiful photo moments to remember the magnificent celebration! And what is a birthday without festive flags! Festive flags will flutter in the wind from the lighting poles on the Great Prospect, from Ganību Street to Brīvības Street, Kuldīgas Street, from Lauku Street to Raina Street, in the Town Hall Square and in the center of Pārventa.
We invite everyone to the four-day Ventspils 700+35 birthday party and the magnificent fireworks display on Saturday, August 2nd at 23:00 PM on the Ostas Street promenade. The magnificent fireworks display will be best viewed on the right bank of the Venta River, opposite the pier of the “Hercogs Jēkabs” ship. From this place, there is a magnificent view of the harbor and the fireworks area – an ideal choice to enjoy the fireworks in all their glory!
The Ventspils City Festival program will be blooming, bright and sonorous, with the closing concert “ 735 white thoughts" will feature the golden fund of rock and pop music from the last 35 years of Latvian pop music. Legendary songs will experience a new breath, they will be intertwined with modern musical rhythms and an international sound, creating a new, contemporary sound.
