With the arrival of warmer weather, the preparation of Ventspils beaches for the swimming season has begun, with the installation of various beach equipment. This year, the official start of the swimming season is May 15, and it will last until September 15, informs the Ventspils Municipal Administration.
In order for visitors to the Ventspils Blue Flag beach to enjoy a pleasant summer vacation on a well-maintained seashore, the installation of beach equipment, which is available to visitors free of charge, has gradually begun on Ventspils beach. In order to improve the beach infrastructure, the installation of entrance walkways, wooden benches for relaxation, waste bins, bicycle racks, shower facilities, public toilets, rescue equipment and other equipment has begun. Equipment and public toilets will also be installed in other public swimming areas and recreation areas in Ventspils, such as Būšnieku Lake, Staldzene Beach, as well as in the recreation area near Venta at the end of Ābolu Street.
When deploying beach equipment, the installation of wooden entrance boards is the most time-consuming process, because during the winter, due to windy weather conditions, sand is blown up to a height of 2 meters to the entrances, so this layer of sand must first be removed with heavy machinery.
Ventspils beach is also accessible to people with disabilities and seniors. To ensure environmental accessibility during the beach season, a specialized changing cabin is installed at entrance No. 6, in which the cabin entrance is expanded and a floor is installed for easy entry with wheelchairs. The changing cabin is equipped with special additional equipment - a handle and a bench. In turn, to ensure the ability of visually impaired people to read map information about Ventspils beach, tactile maps will be placed at the beach entrance stands, the base of which has a relief embedded in it, facilitating the perception of information by touch.
With the start of the swimming season, the Ventspils Municipal Police Beach Rescue Service will also begin work on the Ventspils beach.
