Zuras Local History Exposition (Zuras Museum)

Epidemiological regulations: Work in the green mode. Entrance only upon presenting an interoperable Covid-19 certificate.

You will get to the Zuras local history exposition by driving along the “Ventspils – Kuldīga” highway, turning to the village of Zuras and driving through the longest double-row avenue in Latvia.

The Zuras Museum (currently the Zuras Local History Exposition) was opened in 1998. Currently, the exhibits are located in several buildings – in the hayloft, carriage house of the manor and in the Sports and Culture Centre. The exposition consists of ancient work tools, household and interior items, materials that tell about events in Varve Parish and Ventspils County.

The accumulated material allows to create informative stories for visitors, taking into account their interests, age and time of visit.

By listening to the story From Fibre to Fabric, visitors will not only learn about sheep farming and flax farming, but will also be able to card, spin, twist, reel and weave by themselves.

The story From Grain to Bread will take us back to a time when the fields were measured in thirds of a hectare and horses were used to cultivate them, the grain was milled in mills and the bread was kneaded in a dough trough. Visitors have the opportunity to grind grain, knead white bread and bake it by themselves in the Dwarf Workshop.

The story The Brilliance and Decline of Zuras Manor not only introduces the history of the manor, but will also provide an opportunity to go on a hike through the village of Zuras to see the double-row avenue, manor buildings, park.

Zūras Museum - a small museum, preferred by the school groups, has a unique exhibit - the mould of the first sugarloaf made in the first Latvian Sugar Refinery - a clay cone with wooden finish and wooden rims, as well as other ancient household objects. In the story of Sugarloaf, you will learn about the transformation of small sugar beet seeds into white sugar. This is a story that began with the first sugar factory built in Latvia during the reign of Count Lambsdorf and ends with the closure of the last sugar factory. Visitors can make different types of candies according to ancient recipes. The recreation zone of the museum features the artificial pond and the "Love Island" with wooden benches and footbridges, but the path to the museum goes through the centenarian double linden alley.
