Ventspils Cow Parade exhibits
Following two art projects sponsored by patrons of art, or the so-called Cow Parades, 27 sculptures of cows of different size and colour made by recognised Latvian and foreign artists can be found in Ventspils.
25 natural-size glassware cows and 3 large cows - Sailor Cow, Flower Cow and Traveller Cow - 4 metres high and 7 metres wide, can be found in the city.
The Ghetto Games cow is the 28th cow and it is located at the entry to Ventspils Skatepark, on 63 Kuldigas Street. (As the object for painting, a figure of the Cow Parade 2012 has been used - one of the three “People's Cows” that has not been used up to now.)
Additional information about the projects:
The Cow Parade 2002, which is recognised in the world as the largest and most successful public art event, was held in Ventspils in 2002. At that time, 26 natural-size glassware cows were converted into wonderful artworks, later sold at a charity auction. Six exhibits from this Cow Parade can still be seen in Ventspils.
In 2012, celebrating the 10th anniversary since holding the Cow Parade 2002, streets, squares and parks of Ventspils again housed 24 different colourful participants of the Cow Parade Ventspils 2012. Following a charity auction, cows go to their new owners, but some of them keep on delighting guests and residents of the city. There are seventeen of them in total.
To find all the cows more easily, a walking map has been made so that each cow could be visited.
