An evening where the energy of youth, the brilliance of stars and compositions that continue to inspire listeners around the world will come together. Latvian violinist Elza Siliņa, together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and conductor Guntis Kuzma, will perform one of the most beautiful and beloved violin concertos – Felix Mendelssohn’s Bartholdi Violin Concerto. The program also includes a special event – the premiere of Selga Mence’s new work “Orion”, while the evening will conclude with Jean Sibelius’ majestic Second Symphony.
Elza Siliņa is one of the brightest young Latvian violinists. Her music is captivating with energy, sincerity and confidence. On stage, she captivates with her presence and ability to bring the audience into the world of music. Elza is able to equally convincingly reveal both the subtlest moods of music and its power, creating a special connection with the audience and making each performance a lively and personal musical experience.
Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto is one of the greatest works of the Romantic era, and has maintained its place in concert halls around the world for almost two centuries. It combines virtuosity with elegance, but technical brilliance never overshadows the emotional depth and singing beauty of the music.
The special event of the evening will be the premiere of Selga Mence's overture "Orion". The work was written especially for this program and was inspired by one of the brightest constellations in the night sky. The orchestral sound will bring to life the starry world with its mystery, light and sense of infinity.
"Orion is one of the most recognizable and, in my opinion, most beautiful winter constellations. It captivates us in the night sky, and we often use it as a reference point when looking for other stars," says composer Selga Mence.
The concert will conclude with Jean Sibelius' Second Symphony, one of the composer's most remarkable opuses. It captures both the grandeur of Nordic nature and the inner strength of man. The symphony's emotionally charged and triumphant finale still moves listeners around the world, making this work one of the pinnacles of symphonic music.
