On the Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia – November 18 at 9:00 PM, Ventspils Culture Center invites you to a festive ball. The most titled country music group in Latvia “Sestā jūdze” will perform at the special celebration. During the breaks, Ventspils’ most numerous creative collective – the mixed choir “Līvzeme” – will delight with performances.
The group “Sestā jūdze” was founded in 2001. Since the group’s location at the time of its founding was Bilska, which is 6 miles from Smiltene, where (as one song says) country music in Latvia originated, the group’s name “Sestā jūdze” was also created in honor of this distance. The musicians have performed at country music festivals and other events in Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, England, Ireland, as well as Denmark, including the Silkeborg Country Music Festival, which is one of the most important events of this music style in Europe. Since the group’s founding, participating in the Bauska International Country Music Festival, it has won the “Grand Prix” as the best group several times, and has also received awards for the best song and best performer. “Sestā jūdze” has also won the Latvian music recording “Record of the Year” award three times.
The ball will take place in the Great Hall of the Ventspils Culture Center. Visitors are invited to bring their own baskets.
