The Livonian Order Castle will host its tenth Medieval Readings on February 15, introducing medieval life and history. The theme of the readings is “On Beasts and People, or the Beastly and the Human.”

The choice of theme is related both to the closeness of the natural world and medieval man, and to developments in the modern world.

Medieval history researchers Andris Levāns, Armands Vijups, philosopher Artis Svece, zooarchaeologist Eduards Plankājs, and historian Gunta Deģe will participate in the medieval readings. The speakers' applications reflect a professional interest in this topic, also promising an engaging event for the audience.

A.Vijups will talk about the commander's "small business" - hunting falcons from Ventspils, and Ed.Plankājs - about teeth that bite and teeth that protect. In turn, G. Deģe will explain what ordinary and supernatural qualities were attributed to animals in the 13th-15th centuries, and A. Levāns will talk about the brutal behavior of people in medieval Livonia. The story of the philosopher A.Svece will be about the interaction of people and animals in the Middle Ages, which, in his opinion, was much more direct than today.

Medieval readings will take place in the Chapter Hall of the Livonian Order Castle, the readings will take place from 12.00:16.00 to 14:16, and alongside them, craft workshops typical of the XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries are also planned.

Historical Research and Reconstruction Club Rodenpoys will offer to explore workshops for processing shields, bone and horn, and medieval board games, while fortune teller Brother Ivars will remind you of the upcoming Valentine's Day. The Livonian Order Castle in Pilskrog will host a Medieval Feast all Saturday.

Entrance – with museum tickets.

Medieval readings are supported by the State Cultural Capital Foundation.
