On Friday, September 19, at 17.00:XNUMX p.m., the Ventspils Main Library will be visited by Sandra Kalniete, a Member of the European Parliament, art historian, and writer. She is the only politician from the Renaissance period who is still active in politics and continues to work for the good of Latvia.
Sandra Kalniete was born in Siberia and returned to Latvia at the age of less than five. During the revival, Sandra Kalniete was one of the leaders of the Popular Front, later a member of the 9th Saeima and Minister of Foreign Affairs. She has represented Latvia as an ambassador to the UN, France and UNESCO. Since 2009, she has been a member of the European Parliament.
In parallel with her work in diplomacy and politics, Sandra Kalniete has written several books. “With Ball Shoes in the Siberian Snows” is a biographical story about the family’s experience of deportation. The book “I Broke, You Broke, We Broke, They Broke” tells the story of the Latvian Popular Front and the Third Awakening of the Latvian people. The book “Cinītis” contains Sandra Kalniete’s memories of significant events in her life as a diplomat and politician. But the history and life story of the taste sensations of modern Latvians can be found in the book “Prjaņiks. Debesmanna. Tiramisu”.
Sandra Kalniete's latest books "You Will Have Four Husbands" and "Mother Wife. Mother Wife. Daughter Wife" are novels that reflect the life stories of different people and the era they lived through.
Sandra Kalniete has been awarded the Order of the Three Stars, the French Legion of Honor, the Ukrainian Order of Princess Olga, and other awards.
