Accessibility statement
The Ventspils City Council local government institution “Ventspils City Council Administration” undertakes to make its website accessible in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 445 of July 14, 2020 “Procedures for Institutions to Post Information on the Internet” (hereinafter – Regulation No. 445).
This accessibility statement applies to the official Ventspils tourism website – www.visitventspils.com.
The website has undergone a basic (simplified) accessibility assessment after reviewing the source code and key user flows. This is not a full WCAG 2.1 AA / EN 301 549 audit, and we do not claim full compliance with all accessibility criteria.
Additional accessibility tool (OneTap)
The website features the OneTap accessibility tool, which allows the user to adjust the appearance of the page (e.g. contrast, font size). OneTap is a supplemental tool and does not replace the technical accessibility that must be provided in the website's code, navigation, forms, and content.
How accessible is this website?
The official website of the Ventspils City Council partially complies with Regulation No. 445 for the reasons stated below.
Non-compliance with the requirements referred to in Regulation No. 445
- Keyboard focus: Some interactive elements (links, buttons, custom components) may lack a clear indication of keyboard focus, making navigation difficult for users who only use a keyboard.
- Form labels and error messages. In some forms, fields are visually labeled but not always programmatically associated with input fields; error messages are not always clearly communicated to a screen reader.
- Navigation and Pop-ups: Some interactive features (main menu/megamenu, mobile menu, galleries, and other pop-ups) may be difficult or incomplete to use with a keyboard (lacking full ARIA support, focus management, or prevention of focus “traps”).
- Icon buttons without an accessible name. Some icon buttons (e.g. search, menu, favorites, cookie settings, gallery navigation) may lack an accessible name, so they may not be recognized by a screen reader.
- Image alt text: Some images may lack alt text that is relevant to the content if it has not been entered into a content management system.
- Third-party content: Embedded third-party content (e.g. maps, social media elements, translation widgets) may not be fully accessible due to limited control by the external service provider.
Positive aspects: the website uses basic HTML structure tags (header, main, footer), the page language is set appropriately, and there is an opt-out option available in the cookie consent tool.
