“Nizhinsky” is a contemporary ballet performance by choreographer Marko Geke about the ballet dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nizhinsky. It reveals the most significant moments of Nizhinsky’s life on and off stage, showing the close connection between art and madness. For ten years, Vaslav Nizhinsky (1890-1950) was the leading soloist and choreographer of the legendary Ballets Russes under Sergei Diaghilev. His virtuoso jumps and androgynous charisma enchanted audiences, while his daring choreographies provoked scandals. The artist spent the last thirty years of his life in mental health institutions.
The performance in Ventspils is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Ventspils City Municipality.
