Piff the dog and Hercules the cat, Aunt Agathe and Godfather Tonton, Dudoo and Rosalie. These characters require no comment either in France, where they were created many years ago by French cartoonist Jean Arnald, or in Latvia, where they have been known for several generations as characters in comic books and puppet shows.

At the Latvian Puppet Theatre, the quarrel between the good-natured Piff and the cunning Hercules has been staged repeatedly and forms part of the theatre's Golden Fund.
