The Faculty of Translation Studies of Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VeA) invites high school students and language teachers to an event – ​​the School of Young Translators, which will take place on February 13 at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences. Students will have the opportunity to participate in exciting classes, explore the VeA facilities and meet with faculty lecturers and students, while teachers are offered a professional development day, participating in classes and discussing current trends in language learning.

 High school students will have the opportunity to explore the world of languages ​​and discover its diversity, as well as gain new knowledge that will be useful both in studies and exams. VeA teaching staff will lead exciting classes:

  • Smarter than Google: dictionaries as superheroes for translators. (Assoc. Prof. Silga Sviķe)
  • Latvian language in today's changing world: is it really a victory march of foreign words? (Lecturer Diāna Neimane)
  • From spell check to ChatGPT or language technology all around us. (Lecturer Aiga Bādere)
  • More than meets the eye: the invisible side of words(Beyond the obvious: the invisible side of words). (Doc. Rafael Martins Calvo)
  • The alchemy of interpreting: how to change words while preserving meaning. (Lecturer Zane France)

Students will also have the opportunity to meet students from the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, as well as explore the facilities of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting.

Language teachers are invited to participate in classes and discussions with university lecturers, sharing their experiences and discussing current trends in language learning. The Young Translators School will also provide practical advice that will be useful in working with students.
