In Ventspils, at the theater house "Jūras vārti” will feature a special concert program by Latvian rock veterans “Pērkons” and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, in which the band’s compositions will be given a symphonic sound. The song arrangements for this program were created by composer Andris Sējāns.

"The band "Pērkons" is an icon of Latvian rock, formed by legendary personalities. (..) The long-awaited first program with a symphony orchestra – who else, if not the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra!" emphasizes LSO director Uldis Lipskis.

“The program will differ from similar projects in that it will be a symphony orchestra and the band “Pērkons”, not the band “Pērkons” and a symphony orchestra. Thus, the emphasis is on the word “symphonized”: the symphony orchestra will play the music of “Pērkons”, says the band’s leader and author of all the compositions, Juris Kulakovs.

“Figuratively speaking, I imagine this concert as a one-hour and 20-minute great ride in a good, new and comfortable “Mercedes”. I expect that each “Thunder” song played will acquire new nuances and colors, which will be created by the successful arrangement of “Thunder” songs by the symphony orchestra,” says the band’s guitarist and Juris Sējāns, while the band’s soloist, Minister of Culture Nauris Puntulis adds: “I am looking forward to the concert with great impatience, and I know for sure that “We Feed Each Other” will be heard in Ventspils.”

The pieces for the program were selected by composer Juris Kulakovs himself. "These pieces are composed according to the principles of academic music, therefore they are grateful to be symphonically arranged," explains the composer, whose work inextricably intertwines rock and roll with academic music.

The program will feature both classic "Pērkons" hits - "Almost a Folk Song", "Balāde par gulbi", "Baletomania", "Zaļā dziesma", "Dienišķā dziesma", and lesser-known compositions - "Lidojums (Fly)" and "Tramvajs" - performed by a symphony orchestra.

Organized by SIA "Kurzemes filharmonija". The event is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Ventspils City Municipality.
