In the Small Hall of the Concert Hall “Latvija” at the concert – a jam with Ventspils Big Band No. 4 “How good!” – there will be an opportunity to hear original compositions by musician Andris Buiķis. The concert will feature the energetic and versatile singer Aija Vītoliņa alongside the author and the Ventspils Big Band (artistic director – Renārs Lācis).
Andris Buikis is one of the most sought-after studio recording drummers in Latvia, working in the field of jazz and popular music. In 2013, Andris graduated with honors from the Jazz Department Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Jazz Percussion Department. He has performed and played with several domestic musicians, as well as international solo artists and groups. Winner of the “Grand Prix” of the international competition “Sony Jazz Stage 2008” in the nomination for best jazz drummer. In 2020, he released his debut solo album “Zaļš”. In 2023, a long-cherished project of Normundas Šnē, “Sinfonietta Rīga” and the jazz group “Lupa” was realized, in which the listeners were offered a melodically magnificent journey from classical to the world of jazz and popular music in 12 original compositions by percussionist Andris Buiķis.
