EVENT IS MOVED | Ventspils Big Band and soloists will perform at the Concert Hall “Latvija”
Lielais laukums 1, Ventspils

On Monday, 7 February, at 19:00 o'clock at the Concert Hall “Latvija”, Ventspils Big Band will celebrate the birthday of the band leader Renārs Lācis, performing a special musical programme.

While preparing this programme, Renārs Lācis has invited musicians, composers and arrangement authors, with whom he has found a common language in the professional field over the years and whom he considers not only as colleagues, but also close friends. Among them are saxophonists Gints Pabērzs, Kārlis Vanags, Dāvis Jurka and Māris Jēkabsons, pianists Anna Vibe-Gorkuša and Ritvars Garoza, thrombonist Krists Daubaris, and vocalist Denisa Dārzniece.

“The concert will feature compositions that have stood the test of time and we, musicians, want to play again and again, and the listener wants to hear over and over again. Definitely, also original compositions of soloists will not be left out, whereas a special role this time is dedicated to improvisation,” the choice of the programme is described by the leader of Ventspils Big Band.

Managed by the saxophonist, producer and music teacher Renārs Lācis, Ventspils Big Band operates since 2010. The concert lineup is composed of students and teachers of the Secondary School of Music. In the recent years, Ventspils Big Band has performed together with many popular Latvian artists – Meastro Raimonds Pauls, composer Zigmars Liepiņš, musicians Intars Busulis, Daumants Kalniņš, Jānis Stībelis and many other artists. The Big Band also has had an opportunity to perform with world-renowned foreign artists – trumpet player Gerhard Ornig and jazz performer Daniel Cacija from Austria, Swedish musician, “Grammy” award winner Magnus Lindgren, Estonian vocalist Sofia Rubin-Hunter and many other artists. Already for more than 15 years Ventspils Big Band is the resident band of the contemporary rhythm music festival “Ventspils Groove”.
