Exhibition “Below Level” by Kate Seržāne is available for viewing in Ventspils, theatre house “Jūras vārti”
Tuesday, 8. September — Sunday, 18. October. Teātra nams "Jūras vārti", Karlīnes iela 40, Ventspils

From September 12 to October 18, solo exhibition “Below Level” by Kate Seržāne is available for viewing in Ventspils, theatre house “Jūras vārti”.

The exhibition “Below Level” is a story not only about the artist Kate Seržāne’s work, which is by no means unfamiliar to Latvian visual arts connoisseurs and unmistakably makes them aim in the direction of graphics and drawings, but also about nature, passion and time (both as a process and as weather).

Kate's source of inspiration and inexhaustible fund of ideas is nature, where images and visions are captured, where the love for water, fish, wind and fishing originated. It is an inexhaustible search in philosophical, content and technical terms. As was once the case with Kate's grandfather, who learned to fish all his life, although it was clear that several lifetimes would not be enough to master it completely. It is like endless diving (but not digging, because we are talking about water) – the deeper you go, the more exciting it becomes. And one thing is clear – a half-year is far too little, but a year is barely enough to materialize everything that has been seen and planned.

To make it interesting for everyone – both new and regular visitors, the exhibition includes older and brand new charcoal and sepia drawings (or works and mischiefs). Large works will be joined by very small ones and vice versa, but the remaining space will be filled by an installation made on-site in Ventspils, in the theatre house.

Kate Seržāne (1980) graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, obtaining a master's degree in visual plastic art – graphics. Participates in exhibitions since 2009.

Admission to the exhibition is free.
