On January 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., the concert of the State Academic Choir "Latvija" "Latvija" will take place in the concert hall "Latvija". The conductor of the concert is the artistic director of the choir, Māris Sirmais.
The State Academic Choir “Latvija” has prepared a special concert program for the concert in the “Latvija” concert hall, which clearly shows Latvia as a part of the European musical bloodstream. By mutually enriching each other and at the same time respecting the national heritage, the European music world is changing and developing in one step. The compositions of Latvian composers performed by the “Latvija” choir in the concert halls of Hamburg, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin and many other European cities will sound in the “Latvija” concert hall on a par with the opuses of Arvo Pärt, Johannes Brahms, Francis Poulenc, Sven David Sandström and many other great European composers. The State Academic Choir “Latvija” is one of the cultural assets of Latvia, which has demonstrated the power, high quality and professionalism of music cultivated in the Latvian choral traditions over the decades. Since 1997, the artistic director and principal conductor of the choir has been Māris Sirmais. The choir’s repertoire includes vocal-instrumental works – oratorios, cantatas, masses, requiems, symphonies, and opera concert performances. This is music that has been created from the early Renaissance to the present day. The choir is constantly adding to its repertoire with innovative pieces in various genres, from jazz compositions to vocal-instrumental world premieres. The choir’s performance is highly appreciated not only in Latvia, but the largest professional choir in the Baltics is also regularly included in their concert programs by the world’s most distinguished conductors and orchestras.
The concert is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Ventspils City Municipality, and organized by SIA “Kurzemes Filharmonija”. Tickets are available at the ticket sales network “Biļešu paradīze”.
