Ventspils Prepares for the Opening of Concert Hall “Latvija”
Thursday, 25. July. Big Square

On July 25, 2019, the new acoustic concert hall “Latvija” will be ceremoniously opened in Ventspils, thus, marking the 100th anniversary since independent Latvia was founded de facto in Ventspils.

“In our dream castle, which has been created by skillfully overcoming various external obstacles, concert hall “Latvija”, Ventspils Music High School, Children’s Music School and Music Library will all coexist together. The synergy of different cultural expressions, as well as the specific structure of the building, creates the necessary preconditions for an offer of wide range cultural activities. Each of these elements will create the uniqueness of the concert hall “Latvija” and will show a wonderful example to Latvia and the world of the ability of Ventspils inhabitants and Ventspils supporters in the 21st century,” reveals Aivars Lembergs, the Chairman of Ventspils City Council.

The Big Hall of the new building, with 600 seats provided, will also feature the pride of the concert hall – two world-class unique musical instruments. The first of these is manual acoustic concert organ, created in the company “Johannes Klais Orgelbau GmbH & Co. KG” in Germany. Whereas the second is currently the world's largest vertical concert piano, made in Hungary – in the company “Klavins Piano Manufaktura Kft” of piano master Dāvids Kļaviņš who is of Latvian origin. To ensure excellent sound quality, acoustic testing in the concert hall “Latvija” has been performed by specialists from Germany who have given an excellent professional opinion.

The building incorporates 13 different energy-efficient technologies, which are supported by the use of sustainable construction and environmentally friendly and durable materials. The author of the concert hall project is the office of the German architect David Cook "Haascookzemmrich Studio 2050”. The construction works began in February, 2017, and at the moment they are coming to an end.

The concert hall “Latvija” and Ventspils Music High School is an excellent gift by Ventspils inhabitants to the people of Latvia in the centenary.
