This academic year, the Lifelong Learning Center of VeA offers a new lecture series “Science and Culture – for Society”, in which lectures by well-known scientists and outstanding personalities from Latvia take place once a month, on Saturdays. On October 11, lectures on the challenges of artificial intelligence by Juris Dzelme, a leading researcher at the Institute of Chemical Physics of the University of Latvia, are scheduled.

In parallel with his research in the direction of chemical physics, J. Dzelme's interests include problems of educational management, philosophy, psychology, and art, so he will speak about the possibilities, development, and threats of artificial intelligence.

On October 11, 11:30–14:30, at Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (auditorium D104), J. Dzelme will provide insight into the following topics:

• Digitalization, robotization, artificial intelligence (AI) and superintelligence;

• Emotions, free will and creativity in artificial and natural neural networks (AI and psyche);

• AI ethics, modeling of values ​​and goals;

• Supporting communities in an AI-driven world through art and philosophy, using physics and psychology.

We invite you to follow the developments of the lecture series "Science and Culture - for Society", because on November 1, architect Jānis Dripe will be visiting, who will speak about architectural processes in Latvia and the Baltics, and on December 13, Inese Čakstiņa-Dzērve, a leading researcher at the Institute of Microbiology and Virology of Riga Stradins University, will talk about precision medicine and artificial insemination.
