The centuries-old tenacity of fishermen and the Curonian Spite have helped the people of Ventspils, through well-considered decision-making and professional and purposeful work, transform their city beyond recognition over the past twenty years. From a city about which apartment exchange ads said “Ventspils is not for sale”, it has become a modern, well-maintained, developed city with a pleasant and comfortable living environment, developed infrastructure, and a diverse range of cultural, educational, sports, and recreational offerings.
We have set high goals in our work and learned from the best in the world, embodying the acquired skills and knowledge in the city. Over these twenty years, Ventspils residents have developed a completely different idea of what excellent street surfaces and communications are, what the city's architecture and landscape should be, and what high-quality social and physical infrastructure is. The diverse and extensive offer in physical culture and sports, libraries and cultural venues, medical and educational institutions is a matter of course. To enjoy the breath of Europe, you don't have to go outside Latvia - you will find all this in Ventspils, where even time is counted differently and flowers, despite the rhythm set by nature, bloom earlier on the city streets than elsewhere in Latvia, and those who enjoy a leisurely and carefree vacation wander through the city streets, their heels clicking against the pavement. Ventspils is the capital of flowers and fountains, its streets are dotted with colorful cows and even climb poles, streets, parks, squares and courtyards are decorated with flower sculptures, figurative flower arrangements and tasteful flower beds that do not wither even on the hottest summer days.
