Užava lighthouse is included in the list of state protected cultural monuments and is located ~ 20 kilometers south of Ventspils. Užava lighthouse is located on one of three high wooded dunes — the so-called Tenirokas dunes, the height of which reaches 28 meters. From afar, this dune resembled a baking oven, which is why in the 19th century the German name of Užava lighthouse was Bakofen.

Užava was first mentioned in historical sources in year 1230. Already in the 17th–18th centuries, there is information about a navigation light placed here in the form of a bonfire lit on a pile of stones, which served as a sign of orientation for ships on their way to the port of Ventspils.

The construction of the first Užava lighthouse tower was completed in year 1879, along with the construction of a pier for the delivery of construction materials. The Užava lighthouse was a brick tower connected to a one-story residential building for the lighthouse staff. A metal light room with a lantern was placed at the top of the lighthouse tower, and on September 1879, 10, the Užava lighthouse began sending light signals through an optical device. In 1910, a ribbed wall was created for the lighthouse with 7–8 cm thick boards and a stone embankment in front, because due to the flat beach, the sea waves eroded the foot of the dune. During the First World War, the Užava lighthouse suffered greatly - the upper cylindrical part of the lighthouse tower was destroyed, and auxiliary buildings were destroyed as a result of artillery fire. Only the octagonal base of the tower remained intact, on which the construction of the new Užava lighthouse tower was completed on February 1925, 21. In terms of external appearance, the new tower was identical to the previous lighthouse tower.

Throughout the lighthouse's existence, work has continued to strengthen the adjacent shoreline. In the 20s–20s, juniper wicker baskets filled with pebbles and boulders were used to strengthen the shoreline. In the 30s, they were replaced by concrete blocks.

The lighthouse has four floors, it is plastered, whitewashed and connected to the residential building. In the 20s, the height of the lighthouse tower reached 50 meters. Inside the tower — around the central column — a metal spiral staircase leads up. At the top of the lighthouse there is a balcony with metal railings and a light room made of metal structures (its diameter — 19 meters — is the same as the diameter of the lighthouse).
