The Ventspils narrow-gauge railway consists of two lines:
Ring line – 1,4 km
Mountain line – 3,0 km
Characteristics of the Museum–Mountain railway line
The total length of the Muzejs-Kalns railway line built as part of the project is 3 kilometers. The new line branches off from the Riņķa line in Jurmala Park. Another 150m long connecting line between the new Kalna line and the Riņķa line forms a triangle. The created railway triangle facilitates the movement of trains in all directions and serves to turn steam locomotives.
At the Muzejs station, located on the territory of the PBM, two station tracks, two locomotive depot tracks and one dead end were installed. A total of four new switches were built.
The new railway line meanders through the dune-enclosed and forested area and crosses Vasarnīca and Aizsaules streets, where level crossings with light and sound signaling have been installed for road transport. The railway line gradually rises slightly along its entire longitudinal profile from Jūrmala Park to Kalns station, crossing trenches and embankments. The height difference that the train must overcome between the starting point of the line in Jūrmala Park and the final point at Kalns station is 10 meters.
A Priedes stop was built in the park on the line between Vasarnīca and Aizsaules streets. At the end of the line, a Kalns station with two station tracks was built. Two switches were built and a locomotive turntable was installed.
In addition to the construction of the new line, the railway track has been renovated on some sections of the ring line.
