At the Zūru local history exhibition You can get there by driving along the Ventspils–Kuldīga highway, turning towards the village of Zūri and driving through the longest two-lane alley in Latvia.
The Zūri Museum (now the Zūri Local History Exhibition) was opened in 1998. Currently, the exhibits are located in several buildings – the carriage house, the manor house and the “Sports and Culture Centre”. The exhibition consists of ancient tools, household and interior items, and materials that tell about events in Vārve parish and Ventspils region.
The accumulated material allows us to create informative stories for visitors, taking into account their interests, age, and the time allotted for the visit.
While listening to the story "From Fiber to Fabric," visitors will not only learn about sheep farming and flax growing, but will also be able to card, spin, twirl, wind, and weave themselves.
The story “From Grain to Bread” will take you back to a time when fields were measured in ploughshares and horses were used to cultivate them, while grain was ground in a mill and bread was kneaded in a bread machine. Visitors have the opportunity to grind grain, knead white bread, and bake it themselves in the Dwarfs' Workshop.
In the story of the Sugar Head, you will learn about the transformation of a small sugar beet seed into white sugar. It is a story that began with the first sugar factory in Latvia, built during the time of Count Lamsdorf, and ends with the closure of the last sugar factory. Visitors can make various types of candies according to ancient recipes.
The story “The Splendor and Doom of Zūri Manor” not only introduces the history of the manor, but will also provide an opportunity to take a hike through the village of Zūri to see the two-row alley, manor buildings, and park.
We offer creative activities in the Dwarf Workshop, relaxation in a cart or in nature. We are ready to listen to and coordinate the wishes of visitors.
