The International House of Writers and Translators is located in an 18th century building, where the city's Town Hall was built in 1850, and where the Venstpils excursion bureau operated for many years, but in August 2006 the International House of Writers and Translators was opened, where Latvian and various foreign writers and translators regularly visit.
