In August 2007, the North Kurzeme Crafts Consultation Center – Crafts House – was opened in Ventspils. The Ventspils tourism object is located in the oldest school building of the Duchy of Courland (18th century), which has been renovated and transformed into a modern cultural object and an interesting sightseeing object for city guests.

Since between 1849 and 1851, the prominent New Latvian activist and outstanding folklorist Krišjānis Barons (1835-1923) also studied in this building, where the district school was located at that time, a memorial plaque dedicated to Krišjānis Barons by sculptor Gļebs Panteļejevs was unveiled at the craft house. Weavers and ceramists work in the craft house and show their craft skills to interested people.

The Craft House also has an exhibition hall, where you can view exhibitions of craftspeople's work, as well as organize seminars and other events. Crafts and souvenirs can be purchased in the souvenir shop. The Craft House building once housed a district school, so visitors can view a classroom decorated in the style of the 19th century. By registering in advance, you can participate in a lesson that takes place in the traditions of that time.
