The largest city library was founded on March 1920, 9 (the reading room has been operating since September 1919, 23).
The library offers the residents of Ventspils a diverse range of fiction and non-fiction collections and periodicals, a collection of audiovisual materials, local history materials, free internet, electronic catalogues and databases, informative, cultural and lifelong learning events, as well as home service for residents who cannot visit the library due to limited mobility.
The library has an information point for the European Union and the Nordic countries. At the Regional Training Centre (RMC), residents have the opportunity to receive free advice on working with computer equipment and the opportunity to receive help with using the Internet. The RMC offers the opportunity to learn and use special equipment for people with visual impairments.
Reconstructed in 2004/2005 and recognized as the best reconstructed object in Latvia in 2004. The author of the project is architect J. Poga. The author of the interior is V. Terbets.
