A place where the sea, history and art meet
The Ostas Street Promenade is one of the most beautiful and interesting walking and cycling routes in Ventspils. The approximately 2-kilometer long route offers the opportunity to enjoy picturesque views of the harbor and the Venta River, as well as see a variety of sculptures, environmental objects, and historical evidence.
What to see on the Ostas Street promenade?
Ventspils Ferry Passenger Terminal
At the beginning of the Ostas Street promenade is the Ventspils Ferry Passenger Terminal, which provides regular ferry lines to Sweden. With the Stena Line ferries you can reach Nynashamn, near Stockholm, in 8,5 hours.
Sculpture "Sea Stone"
A natural object made of a 56-ton stone, found during dredging work in the harbor. The stone is a reminder of the development of the harbor and the importance of shipping.
Environmental object "Latvian Black Cow"
A symbolic cow sculpture that participated in the “Cow Parade” campaign in 2002. Represents the contrast between the agricultural romance of the past and modern reality.
Environmental object “Sea Cow”
The sculpture, shaped like a wet cow emerging from the sea, symbolizes the proximity and mystery of the sea.
Fountain "Ship Watcher"
A monumental head-shaped sculpture with a jet of water as its “hair.” Is it crying over the departing ships or rejoicing over the new guests?
Sculpture object “Seven Mental Meteorites”
A group of stone sculptures, known locally as “stone ladybugs.” Each shape can be interpreted differently – from planets to the cycle of life.
Sculpture “Daba dažkārt iecērt zobus” (Nature Sometimes Cuts Its Teeth)
A sculpture by Japanese sculptor Yoshio Yagi, which won the international stone sculpture symposium "Ventspils-2004".
Monument to Krišjānis Valdemars
A monument to the founder of Latvian seafaring with a bench next to it, inviting passersby to rest for a moment.
Ventspils Freeport Authority administrative building
A historic building built in 1898, which used to be the Royal Hotel, is now the headquarters of the Freeport.
Livonian Order Castle
One of the oldest medieval fortresses in Latvia, now a modern museum presenting the history of Ventspils.

A symbolic sculpture of a one-lats coin "fish", reminiscent of the history of Latvia's national currency.
Sculpture “Cow - Waking Dreams”
The 4-meter-high and 7-meter-long sculpture "Waking Dreams" placed on the Ostas Street promenade embodies creative transformation with its bright and colorful design, depicts a modern interpretation of waking dreams, and enriches the Ventspils urban environment with the presence of contemporary art.
Monument to Sailors and Fishermen
In 1938, a memorial stone was erected to sailors and fishermen who spent their lives at sea.
Environmental object “Loču kuģis “Rota”” (“Pilot ship “Rota””)
A ship that served in the port of Ventspils is now a tourist attraction and a piece of history.
