Piltene Secondary School history teacher Gunārs Daudze began creating a local history exhibition to interest students in learning the history of the region. Already in 1964, he began to arrange one room in the Piltene Executive Committee – the “Hall of Fame”, which was under the care of pioneers and Komsomol members. In 1966, the room was reorganized into the Firefighters Centennial Room. The inconvenience was that there were no museum rooms in the school. A new extension was built to Piltene Secondary School with spacious classrooms and one museum room. In 1980, the Piltene local history exhibition was arranged in the school as a secondary school history classroom. The historical sequence and explanation of historical facts were observed, there was no Soviet patriotism in the exhibition, and in 1989 the exhibition rooms were occupied by a reading room. The exhibition materials were moved to the school boarding house, then to the Piltene Humanitarian School, until finally in 1995 the Piltene City Council arranged two exhibition rooms in the renovated cultural center. In one – the exhibition “History of the Piltene Region” – from ancient times to the present day. In the second – the granary – ethnographic objects. Excursions must be booked in advance.
