At its mouth into the sea, the Irbe forms a 2 km long sandbar. The inlet changes its location and appearance every year. Between Jaunciems and the mouth of the Irbe is the 23,6 m high dune Baltais kalns. The Irbe River is the largest river in Northern Kurzeme, flowing through the Livonian land.
