The monument is located in Ventspils, near the Livonian Oradea Castle. It "observes" the activities of the Ventspils port, as well as every ship that enters the Ventspils port through the sea gate. A popular photo spot for city visitors.
The bronze statue of K. Valdemārs is made in life-size and concrete, placed on a cast-iron bench in the old town of Ventspils on the river bank next to the Free Port Authority building with a view of the sea. The other place on the bench is left free, as if inviting a hurried passerby to sit next to him for a moment and think. The inscription on the monument, like the one at the Terbatas University a century and a half ago, laconically and boldly states: «Krišjānis Valdemārs, Latvian.»
Krišjānis Valdemārs (1825-1891) - the founder of the New Latvian movement, publicist and politician, as well as the founder of the first Latvian maritime school.
