Represented in the "Repository of Natural Rarities" is specially protected. The stone is almost not sunk into the ground. In the northern part there is a horn-like overhang.

The boulder located on a ridge in the forest of Tārgale parish is deservedly recognized as one of the most beautiful giant stones in Latvia. Unlike others, it, without hiding an iota of its magnificence, is almost completely above ground, delighting those interested with its enormous size of 6,3 x 4,6 x 3 meters and a circumference of 17 meters.

This giant stone, thanks to the approximately one and a half meter diameter cavity on its surface, resembles a very large chair. Of course, due to its shape and large size, several stories are associated with the great stone.

This is one of the rare places where, if legends are to be believed, a peace-loving and decent devil lived. The huge stone was located right on the border between the Curonian and Livonian lands, and the devil, wanting to settle the seemingly endless border dispute, decided to intervene. He carved a chair for himself out of the stone, sat on it with a large stick in his hands, and watched so that neither the Curonians nor the Livonians would cross the established border. Thus, with his perseverance, the devil stopped the eternal warfare, and even today the Grīži Devil's Bench testifies to the feat of the strange peacemaker.
