Since July 2023, a new, multifunctional service, cultural heritage and community center facility has been available with the necessary infrastructure to provide library services and diverse cultural and educational events, contributing to the preservation and development of intangible cultural heritage.
The library offers visitors six new thematic areas related to the preservation of traditional lifestyles and their uniqueness. The center for skills in ancient crafts and a creative space, a group of researchers in natural and cultural history, literary and writing workshops, folklore and Latvian life events are held here. Family history research events are also regularly held here, and it is also possible to receive support for the acquisition and application of digital skills and technologies. The new Gāliņciems library ensures that people with visual impairments can also conveniently use the library services, as since July 2023, the collection of the previous Ventspils branch library of the Latvian Library for the Blind has been integrated into the library. In the section intended for children and young people, there is an opportunity to use a game console, play board games, read and simply spend time.
In addition to existing library services, the library will offer the opportunity to learn about the preservation of traditional lifestyles and uniqueness in areas such as:
- folklore and Latvian way of life
- ancient trade skills
- literature and writing
- natural and cultural history study, research, popularization and preservation
- family history research
- application of digital skills and technologies
The building is 620 square meters in size. It has a separate hall for events, a large room for the library collection, a place for free-access computers and a separate area for children and young people. Several scenically expressive common ash trees grow near the building, as well as three hybrid alders, which have already reached the status of a large tree and are considered to be particularly valuable.
