Lake Būšnieki

Lake Būšnieki has become a wonderful destination for lovers of active recreation, whose special natural beauty can now be enjoyed not only by swimmers and boaters, but also by cyclists, runners, walkers, and ornithologists.

A pedestrian and bicycle path has been built around the lake, a 187-meter-long pedestrian bridge has been created, and at its end there is a viewing platform for bird watching, a well-maintained swimming area, and picnic areas. 

The implementation of the project “Improvement of the infrastructure of the “Būšnieku Lake Shore” Nature Reserve” provides the city's residents and guests with the opportunity to walk an 8 km route around Būšnieku Lake. Būšnieku Lake nature trail.

Lake Būšnieki boat base offers boat, catamaran and SUP board rental.

Lake Būšnieki is unique with its location, on average 10 m above sea level, being only 1,5 km from the Baltic Sea. The surface area of ​​the lake is 330 ha. The maximum depth of the bed is 2,8 m. Perch, carp, bream, pike, tench, roach, rudd, rudd, as well as eel live here.

A pavilion has been erected at Lake Būšnieku on Talsu Street, opposite the Deer Garden. well-maintained swimming area. It is especially convenient for visitors with mobility restrictions. The new swimming area has an innovative access to the water body for people with mobility impairments – a special ramp, along which, using a special wheelchair, you can get into the water. Special wheelchairs are located in the Deer Garden, which must be booked in advance.

Būšnieku Lake is a lagoon-type lake that has formed in a depression between dunes. The adjacent dune ridges are located from 23,6 to 20,8 m above sea level. On the western side of the lake is the nature reserve “Būšnieku Lake Shore”, which is included in the European network of protected nature areas NATURA 2000, and was established in 2004 and covers an area of ​​49 ha.
